American Kestrel

The American Kestrel is the smallest of our falcons and is common and widespread throughout most regions of the U.S. They are occasional visitors to our property, and are regulars (always one or two perched on the telephone wires along Valle Vista just off of Avenida La Cresta) on the Plateau.

9/1/08 American Kestrel (Falco sparverius) on a wooden stake next to the grape vines in the back patio.

10/9/06 Got a shot of this beautiful pair on the Engelmann Oak above the orchard via rudimentary digiscoping using a point & shoot digital camera through the lens of my spotting scope.
