3/30/12 Western Scrub Jay (Aphelocoma californica).
These raucous, social, and colorful denizens of our local scrub oak woodlands, chaparral, and backyards are in the same family (Corvidae) as crows, ravens, and magpies. Probably why they sound the way they do...
