6/15/11 Deer Mouse (Peromyscus maniculatus) in one of the raised flower beds. I accidentally flushed him out when I was watering.
This tiny nocturnal rodent is common in forests, grasslands and agricultural areas throughout North America. Very cute, but also a carrier for Hantavirus (usually only a problem if they get indoors and leave droppings which can contaminate the area with the airborne/respiratory virus).
